We endeavor to lift up the name of Jesus in word, deed, and by whatever means we can. So that men may know that we serve the TRUE and Living God.

The History of the Glorious Church of God In Christ

The Glorious Church of God in Christ, 1665 10th Avenue, Huntington, West Virginia, was purchased and founded by the late General Bishop S.C Bass and his son, Sidney A. Bass (now Bishop Sidney A. Bass), on April 12,1964.

The church began with eight members. The first appointed pastor was the late Mother Bertha Price. After she moved to Cleveland,Ohio with her son in 1965, the late Bishop S.C Bass and his wife the late Mother Freda Bass became the pastors. They traveled from their home in Roanoke, Virginia to Huntington, West Virginia every weekend. During this time, Bishop Sidney A. Bass and Teacher Mary E. Bass were united as husband and wife. They then became responsible for conducting the services, at the church during the week.

It was decided in February of 1969-1970, to appoint Evangelist Martha of Sharples, West Virginia, as full time pastor. She accpepted the pastoral position. Evangelist Johnson's husband, the late Deacon Frank Johnson Sr., and their children and grandchildren, who were still living in Sharples, came also. Until they were able to relocate, their son, Elder Frank Johnson Jr.,came to help with the church services.

In 1971, many souls were baptized and added to the church. The church began to grow, with a wonderful Sunday School, Bible Class, Youth Department, Missionary, W.I.S.W., Brotherhood, and Choir, along with great musicians.

During the 32 years under Evangelist Martha Johnson's leadership, many changes have taken placed: some happy, some sad. Several members have gone on to be with the LORD, moved away, and others have joined different churches. Through it all, Pastor Johnson continues to reach out to the people in the community.
